THE !? STEED
show name • …
barn name • …
age • 10
gender • gelding
height • 15.2 hnads
breed • Andalusian
colouring • grey dappled
personality • This grey has a very forgiving personality. He is inquisitive and friendly and if there is a person in his field, he has to be touching them, and from what Demeter has seen so far all he wants to do is please people – though one would wonder why when they learn his past.
history • This horse shines in a crowd, and he did once. He was born at an Andalusian stud farm, and even though his colouring drew more attention than anything else, he was handled from an early age and things were taken slowly.
As the years progressed he was gelded and trained in dressage and show jumping – both of which he loved and excelled in. It was when he was an eight years old and coming into his prime that he was purchased by a family who bought their son his first horse. Things went really well at first, until the shows became weekly, or even throughout the week as well. Without the chance to rest his muscles enough, the grey dappled gelding began to make mistakes; he would pick up the wrong lead in the canter, fumble with a flying change and bring down poles in the jumping arena.
The family that owned him, bought him to win and when he stopped winning he was no longer of use to them and he was discarded, left in the paddock to rot. With over grown hooves and a coat that was in desperate need of grooming, he was sent to a sale yard with bogus papers, going for glue.
discipline • english – show jumping and dressage (though his reaction to a saddle is unknown)

THE !? STEED
show name • …
barn name • …
age • 11
gender • mare
height • 14 hands
breed • Fell Pony
colouring • bay
personality • This little girl is shy and cautious of everything. She needs to be a completely open area to feel safe as who knows what kind of monsters are hiding behind those bushes over there.
history • This bay was born in a backyard breeding operation, which can be told by her lack of proper training. She was broken in at a very early age (training started at six months), and this was done by slapping a saddle on her back (no blanket) and leaving her tied up in the middle of an arena with one leg tied up so that she would accept the harsh bit that was forced into her mouth.
From some research on Demi’s part; she has been shown in working hunter classes. And the scars on the mare’s forelegs are an obvious sign that she was rapped to teach her to jump high and clean.

age • six

height • 15.3 hands
breed • Mustang
colouring • flaxen black chestnut
personality • This mare is cold and distant. If anyone gets too close to her, she will lash out with teeth and legs.
history • Not a lot is known about this girl. There is a possibility that she has been trained under the saddle, but there is no real way of knowing this until someone can gain her trust. Her belly is covered in scars – thought to have come from a stock whip and she has a mild case of rain rot.

barn name • …
age • how old
gender • gelding
height • 14.2 hands
breed • Mule Pony
colouring • grey
personality • This guy is friendly-ish, but is also withdrawn. He will accept pats, but you can tell that they are accepted because he feels he has to stand there rather than because he wants to be standing there.
history • One Jack donkey stallion and one very pretty Connemara mare, and in result you have a mule pony. This little man’s history hasn’t been too bad, other than being used as a riding school pony. He has been ridden mostly by beginners, so the corners of his mouth have been cut into by a bit that this gentle pony didn’t need and he also has scars over his back from being hit by both the sticks his riders used but also from being chased down the long side of the arena with a dressage whip.

age • five
gender • mare
height • 15.2 hands
breed • Quarter Horse
colouring • red roan overo
personality • Quiet and withdrawn. It takes a lot of time for this girl to allow you to get close to her, but once that happens you can easily handle her – as long as you are alone.
history • This beautiful animal was found at a rodeo, after she had been used in the horse tripping arena and couldn’t run any more. She hasn’t suffered any permanent physical damage, but the mental scarring could be extreme especially if a rope is swung anywhere near her.

THE !? STEED
show name • …
barn name • …
age • ten
gender • gelding
height • 13 hands
breed • Conemara Pony
colouring • tri-coloured
personality • Flighty and distrustful are the best words to describe this lad. He will run as far away from people as he can get, or will hid in the middle of a group – even though his colouring makes him stand out like a sore thumb.
history • Breed for his colouring, when the breeders realised that he couldn’t be registered they no longer wanted him and turned him out (as a fully trained four year old) in the back field with the rest of the rejects. The field was bare of grass and the other horses were skin and bone. This guy had only been there a couple of months before they were reported by a passerby and the horses were saved.
At a new home, a hunter barn, the pony seemed to flourish. This came to a crashing halt however when the barn owner teamed him up with the wrong rider and the girl literally rode the pony into the ground. It was after he had crashed through a jumping course and he was beaten with a riding crop that he was sent to a sale yard as a write off as the barn owner didn’t want a scarred pony.

THE !? STEED
show name • …
barn name • …
age • seven
gender • mare
height • 15 hands
breed • Pintabian
colouring • tri-colour
personality • This girl has given up on life, or so it seems, as she can’t think of anything that’s worth living for. She grazes just to fill in time but won’t touch food other than this
history • This girl’s life was perfect, she was born in the best breeding barn, and received the best training. This changed though when the owner’s daughter began to show the mare. Things went well to start off with as the Pintabian shone in the spotlight, eyes bright, ears pricked. Then things became monotonous and the mare began to get bored of the show ring, going through the same patterns over and over again – she pretty much lived and breathed reining. The girl got angrier and angrier with her mount and after one show lashed out at the mare with the riding crop that was in the horse trailer, leaving a criss-cross of open wounds across the mare’s face. The poor horse was then taken home and just put in her box. The mare couldn’t understand what she had done wrong or why the only person she worked with no longer came to see her.
It was a couple of months before the owner realised what had happened, he wasn’t exactly hands-on with his business, and by then the mare was too far gone and he couldn’t keep a horse like that on his yard so she was sent to a sale yard.

THE !? STEED
show name • …
barn name • …
age • five
gender • gelding (just)
height • 13.2
breed • Welsh Pony, section C
colouring • dun (with dorsal stripe)
personality • This little man still has the firey temperament of a stallion (happens when they get gelded at five). When he is calm though, he is a very nice pony.
history • Born to a pretty well-known breeder, this little man remained with his dam until he was six months when he was then weaned and the handling began – the owner didn’t believe in starting his horses too early. As a young colt, he had a great disposition, so the owner was in no hurry to have him gelded. At the age of two, he was introduced to the saddle and his showing career began with simple inhand shows and then later moving on to hunter classes. He was spotted at a show and was sold for a good sum of money, the new owners just didn’t realise that they were buying a stallion, and hadn’t clicked when the owner said that his horse was a “colt”. Unable to handle the testosterone and temperament that went with a stallion, he was quickly sold on a year later.
It was a sunning looking bucking and rearing horse that Demeter saw at the sale yard and with some quick talking she purchased him. She was tempted to leave him intact and offer him to the college to use, but she wanted to see what he would be like in her class so after taking some semen, she gelded him. He is currently in a pen by himself as he comes to grip with his new lifestyle.
