"Hush, young man." She cooed as the gelding held his head as high as he could and swung his hindquarters around as he walked into the barn and they passed the empty stalls. "There's a good boy." She led him down to the stall with the door open wide and then walked him up to the door where he came to a sudden stop. "It's ok, little man." She said as she kept a firm but gentle hold on the lead and stood at his side. "Take as much time as you need." she knew that she needed to get the other horses and ponies into the barn, but right now the Frisian Sporthorse was her main concern, she knew that the others would be fine together, out in the big pasture. Five minutes later and the gelding plunged forward into the stall and stood in the middle, drenched in sweat as he looked around himself, trembling from muzzle to tail. "Good wee lad." She whispered as she removed the halter and exited the stall quietly. The woman leaned against the door as she watched the piebald, knowing instantly that this guy was going to be her project. She had been out since early morning, going from sale yard to sale yard, picking up "bedraggled nags". Animals that everyone else had given up on, most if them from the slaughter pens, projects for her next rehabilitation class. She had found a mixture of everything, and she knew that this horse here, would be hers. Will you even look back when you think of me? All I want is a place to call my own && mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone Walking around the campus of her new work area, the ashy blond wanted to become fimilar with her surrounding. Joanna heard the well known neigh of the mares and their foals as she walked by the reproduction barn. The harsh whinnys of the stallions came into clear earshot when Jo became closer to their barn. As she neared the rehab barn, or what she had guessed what it was, she heard the voice of a women. Picking up the pace she kind of wanted to meet someone anyone. Seeing a large horse standing in the aisle as Joanna turned into the barn she saw a dark haired women leading him around and then eventually into his stall. "Beautiful horse". The words just came out no thought put into them. The lovely piebald stood magnificently in his stall. She had always loved black and white horses. "Sporthorse?" Jo could tell that he was a mix of at least two breeds. He had the beautiful muscular body of a Friesian but yet the color defiantly didn't make that breed.

"Thanks." She said as she turned to face the woman with a smile. "Yeah, he's a Frisian Sporthorse." She replied. "If the information I have of his history is correct, then he has some pretty good bloodlines." She turned back to look at Tau. "But his lineage has nothing to do with why I got him." His coat was dull and his ribs were visible, even if they didn't stick out too obviously, and his eyes had lost the spark that the woman was sure had been in them once. She turned back to look at the other woman. "I'm Demi, I teach the rehabilitation class." She said as she held out her hand, a warm smile on her lips that made her eyes sparkle. "You must be new around here." It was a statement, not a question. She took a step back, leaving the gelding in peace as she could see that he wasn't going to move from his spot while he was being watched. The woman glanced out toward the field where the other eight horses were waiting for her. Each of them came from different backgrounds, and not all of them looked as though they had been beaten for their entire lives, but each of them was scarred in their own way, even if the scars weren't physical. "I have eight other horses that need my attention." She said as she nodded toward the door. "Do you mind if I work while we talk?" She didn't want the other female to feel as though she had been dismissed, as Demeter would enjoy the company while she looked at each other horses. She knew that none of them were carrying any infectious diseases but she wanted to give them a complete inspection before she put up the information for the class. The gelding was truly beautiful, and Jo could definantly tell that the big boy had great lineage. As the dark haired woman introduced herself, the ashy blond shook her hand and then said, "My name is Jo and yep I'm the new barrel instructor." She was proud of her job, it was something she loved. Joanna followed Demi's eyes to the pastures of horses. Listening to her, Jo replied with, "I wouldn't mind at all, I could help if you wanted." She smiled warmly. This was going nicely, she could tell that it would be nice to have someone at least to smile at when crossing paths. Being the new face in the crowd of people who have been here for awhile was a bit awkward. She could only imagine what her little sister was dealing with, trying to find her way around to all of her classes, trying to make new friends. Being new wasn't a good thing, to her.

"That's nice of you, but I'm going to have to decline." She still had a smile on her face, to remove any sting that her words may have had. "They are all pretty skittish and I would like them handled as little as possible until the class starts, this way the students will know that everything they have done is because of them."Once they were outside, she looked over as an angry shrill whinny filled the air and she looked at the Welsh pony who was in a yard away from the others. He had been gelded as soon as he had arrived and wasn't adjusting to it too well. He would be the one equine that she would handle as much as possible before class started as she didn't want to hand some poor student a half wild pony to work with. She headed to the field where the other seven were. Her eyes swept over the small herd; a tri-coloured Pintabian, a just as brilliantly coloured Connemara, a red roan overo Quarter Horse, a dapple grey Pony-Mule, a liver chestnut Mustang, a bay Fell and a stunning grey dappled Andalusian... well, she at least assumed that the Pinabian and Connemara were tri-coloured as each of the horses needed a good grooming and their feet done. Out of all of them, the Andalusian was the only one who actually looked as though someone loved him, other than having over-grown hooves, but his scars weren't over the pshyical kind, which meant that he was going to need a lot of work to get him past his... well past. She glanced as Jo as she ducked through the fence. "Barrel racing, huh?" She asked. "I've always wanted to give that a go. Do you give adult lessons." Her eyes sparkled to show that even though she may be joking around, she was also serious. She smiled as she was butted in the back by the Andalusian and she pressed the clicker that she had been holding and offered the gelding a chunk of carrot from her hand. As well as being well turned out, he was also quite friendly, once he knew you. "That's nice of you, but I'm going to have to decline."
"They are all pretty skittish and I would like them handled as little as possible until the class starts, this way the students will know that everything they have done is because of them."
Seeing Demi's reaction to her offer, she nodded and said, "I completely understand." Once the woman made her way out to the field and slid under the fence rail, Joanna leaned against it. Watching the horses, she studied the coloring. Most of the horses had overgrown hooves, but they were all different in their own way. The little pony, and from what she guessed a gelding, was loud and slightly rude. Her thoughts trained on him, he must have been recently gelded.. she thought to herself. As no gelding had that much stallion hormones in them, at least not the ones that have been gelded for a long while. Jo's attention jumped back to Demi as she began to ask about barrel racing.
"Barrel racing, huh?" "I've always wanted to give that a go. Do you give adult lessons." Joanna nodded, barrel racing was hard but with the right horse and teacher is was thrilling and fun. "Yup, I've been barrel racing since I was about five or six maybe." Squinting her eyes trying to rack her memory of the very first day she went around those three little barrels. "It is quite fun if you have the right horse, one that knows where to put its hooves, how to bend around the barrel, so basically one with experience." She chuckled, the thought of her poor little colt trying to round the barrels. He wasn't very knowledgeable about barrels. Cattle were more his thing. "I'm actually not sure about the adult lesson, but I could be your personal coach, if you wanted." She smiled with a small laugh following it.

"I think I'll pass." She said. "But thanks for the offer. I think I'll stick to encouraging horses to fly over show jumps while I'm not helping other horses readjust with a new life."Her attention was captured once again by the small gelding who noisily called out from his high walled yard. "He needs a friend." She commented as she ducked between the railings once again and left the field. She frowned in thought as she walked toward the big bodied dun Welsh Pony. Every inch of him showed that he had been a stallion, and she just hoped that gelding him had been the right decision. "Let's hope you chill out a little before the class starts up, hey bud?" She whispered as she stopped by the fence. "Or else I'm going to struggle to find a student to work with you." She smiled as the horse walked up and blew on her face. "You are friendly enough, when you want to be." She stepped back quickly as the dun's ears went flat and he spun around, kicking out at the fence before he bucked his way across the yard. Once again the woman's face was marred by a frown as she was once again deep in thought as she wondered if she should indeed get the Welsh Pony a companion animal. Maybe a retired gelding pony, a Shetland who wouldn't take any kind of nonsense from the strong-willed pony. She shrugged the thought off though as her mind was filled with the things that she not only wanted to teach the students who came to work with these horses and ponies, but what she was also hoping to learn from the way the students chose to work with the animals. She was a little worried about the Welsh Pony and the Connemara, as they were both under fourteen hands, and she didn't think that there would be any college student that would want to work with a tiny riding pony. If they had been trained to drive, things might be a little different... She moved back to what Joanna had been saying about barrel racing horses. "It sounds to me that a good barrel pony is a lot like a good jumper? You need a horse who puts as much trust in himself as he does his rider. A horse who know when to hold back and when to push forward.""This would be your character speaking.""This would be your thoughts.""This would be someone else talking."- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - TAGGED: OpEn WORDS: 462 LYRICS: B.O.B. & Hayley Williams NOTES: So much better than my Cara post CREDITS: Thanks to BUNNYA! at Caution 2.0
